Mochi is Bree’s dog, even though that wasn’t the original plan. But, the two of them bonded in a very special way, and even though Mochi loves us all, her eyes always turn to Bree. If Bree is home, Mochi will be with her. Of course, Bree is a busy teenager, so often I get to spend time with Mochi as her runner-up, ha! On the day that Mochi had her latest litter, we had been watching her pretty closely, knowing the puppies were due any minute. We use pet cameras to keep an eye on expectant mommas and new litters while we are at school, so we had been peeking in on Mochi all day. By 3, she was panting and beginning to show signs of labor. I hurried home from school to begin to prepare for the new arrivals, deciding to watch Bree’s Friday night basketball game from the livestream, rather than attend in person, so I could keep on eye on Mochi. From 4 until 9, Mochi showed so many signs of labor, but no puppies! We watched the entire game, as well as the SR boys game that followed…..still no puppies! Wes joked that she was waiting on Bree to get home, and sure enough, at 9:45, when Bree arrived home, there comes the puppies! We will never know for sure if Mochi was waiting for her “person” to be present before birthing her babies, but it sure felt like that was what she was doing! Here is her beautiful litter of five (3 boys and 2 girls) at 4 weeks old!
Mochi’s litter have all already found their forever homes, but Mochi will likely have another litter next winter. She might have one sooner, but we plan for her to take the summer off. We are taking a family trip to New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah, for Bree’s SR pictures, and we can’t do that without Bree’s best friend, Mochi!! So, probably no puppies for Mochi until next year!
